According to the Madeline Hunter lesson plan template, the teacher should first draw the focus of the students. This can be achieved by anticipating the students may be by handing out a hand out or relating the topic with real life.

The teacher should then engage the students in a step by step guided practice. If possible it should be individual or in small groups. This is the point the teacher cements the understanding of the students. If a student doesn't understand at this stage then it calls for individual help.

Student understanding is the principal goal of every teacher. The teacher should check understanding of the students at this stage. It is advisable for random selection of students to answer questions. The teacher should note the general response to this session.

At this point of the plan, the teacher can allow students to have independent practice and offer to answer any questions. However, the tutor should fore see this exercise.

The teacher can then conclude the lesson with a recap of the whole lesson.

The teaching plan uses a simple concept, "you tell them what you are going to say, you say it, and you tell them what you have said. Its recommended for the tutor to have good understanding of the subject topic to masterly level.
